There are two main types of patio door: hinged (French) or sliding. Each type comes in a variety of sizes and design options.
French patio doors
French patio doors have hinges on either side and meet in the middle. Hinged patio doors can be fitted to swing inwards or outwards.
Center-hinged patio doors
Center-hinged patio doors have a fixed panel alongside a hinged panel.

Sliding patio doors
Sliding glass doors open by gliding along a track, typically with one fixed panel and one moving panel. Double sliding patio doors have dual tracks so you can slide open either panel.
Folding patio doors
Folding patio doors fold up accordion-style when opened, giving you an unobstructed view.
Most patio doors have a 2-panel design, but you can also get patio doors with 3 or 4 panels (or more).
